The Secrets of an Oak Tree

What the tree outside my window has been telling me for years. I just haven't been listening.

Our house has been our home for over 15 years. We moved in together after we got married and I was so wrapped up in the changing season that I didn’t take that much notice to what stood next to our little row of houses.

It wasn’t until the dust had settled and spring had burst into full bloom that my eyes and heart were drawn heavenward to the magnificent pair of Oak trees that stretched out their boughs, and unfurled their fresh flourishing fauna above our heads.

As our family grew, we spent more and more time beneath these two Oak trees. Sitting underneath them in the spring and summer time, reading books, climbing their creviced trunk, investigating their cracked bark and velvet leaves. We have spent countless autumn days watching the acorns grow large enough for the wind to sweep them into the sky and fall onto the grass below. We have collected large handfuls of these treasured gems and made pieces of art by arranging the green and brown jewels in lines. …
